AeroTuner Guitar Tuner - Digital Strobe Tuner Version 0.9.3 2003-Dec-05 For PalmOS 5 models which include sound manager support and an internal microphone: Palm Tungsten T, T2, T3 or: Palm Tungsten C with an external microphone plugged-in. The AeroTuner Guitar Tuner includes a high quality strobe tuner in addition to 6 individual match needle indicators, one for each string (E A D G B E), with both a frequency readout and cents offset readouts. The options dialog will allow you to modify your center tuning frequency for A = 440 from -4 to +5 Hz. Pluck an open string on your guitar near the Tungsten microphone and this application will try and tell you which string you are playing, the frequency of the musical note, and how close it is to being in tune. If the string indicator turns green, the strobe display at the bottom will stop moving when you are exactly in tune (within 1 cent, better than +- 0.1%). The strobe window displays the tone being played synchronized with a perfect pitch window. If the frequency is close to correct and moving left, then it is slightly flat. If it is moving right, then it is slightly sharp. The slower the bars move, the closer the mic input is to being exactly in tune. Please note that if the frequency of the guitar string or sound input is way off, then you may get the movie "wagon wheel" effect, where it seems to flicker in the wrong direction; so make sure the needle indicator is close before using the strobe tuning window. Because the microphone on the Tungsten T is a voice mic and not a music mic, the positioning of the microphone is very important. This mic is in the upper left edge of a Tungsten T. Try holding the Palm handheld about a foot in front of your guitar's sound hole, and/or place the handheld on a soft surface near the front of the guitar. Pluck the string near the center (at the 12th fret) for the cleanest fundamental tone. Make sure to let the other strings stop vibrating first. *** UP/DOWN buttonw for Single Note Tuning *** If the Guitar Tuner is still having trouble determining which string is being played, use the up/down scroll buttons or the pop-up list selector to select single string mode. There is also a pop-up list that will allow you to tune one of the harmonics (overtones) of the string, if the fundamental note is too hard to detect. The Guitar Tuner application turns off after 5 minutes to conserve your Palm handheld's battery life. To turn the application display back on or to reset the 5 minute timer, press the Address-List button below the display. Press this button twice is you want to exit the Guitar Tuner and go to the application normally launched by this button. In single-string mode you can also use sideway presses of the 5-way navigator to adjust the tuners per-string cents offset, for tuning to special temperaments. The options dialog allows you to view and change your cents offsets. Use +0 cents for standard 12-tone equal temperament tuning. Some people think that tuning the low E string at around -3 cents sounds "sweeter". This is a new application. User reports are very welcome. For the latest beta releases.
