HotPaw Music Piano Roll Spectrograph - Your Visual Music Transcription Assistant Visualize reverse engineer Sound and Music in real-time. See music and sound as it might appear on a live piano-roll MIDI/Music editor. See the musical pitch of music, singing, and speech. Musical notes (plus all their overtones) can be graphed from tunes in your iTunes music library, or in real-time to assist in your understanding of live music. Slow down recordings to make them easier to transcribe. The HotPaw Musical Piano Roll Spectrograph can create a real-time scrolling 12th-octave MIDI pitch-centered spectrogram, either from microphone input, or from your iTunes music collection. You can even hear the major sound frequencies in your music, not in slow motion, but actually stopped in time. * Buttons at the Bottom are for Help, Play/Pause, Select Tune, and Show Settings. * Hit the Record (Record/Play/Pause) button to start analyzing sound from the microphone. * To analyze a song in your iTunes library, hit the Tunes button and choose a tune. Hit Done and then Play to start the spectrograph. Music Spectrograph will convert up to 4 minutes in length tunes from your iTunes library for MIDI visualization. To help remove vocals on many common pop tune mixes, you can select L-R in the Tunes display. * Hit Pause to stop the spectrograph. You can then touch the spectrograph to scroll back are review the history (up to 4 minutes of frequency data is stored). When scrolling back, a ReSynth switch will appear. Toggle the ReSynth switch to hear a resynthesis of the strongest MIDI frequencies and overtone at that point in the scrolled history. The ReSynth button will replay just some MIDI frequencies contained at the current audio cursor location, stripped of percussion, consonants and most other attack transients, so you can just hear the pure musical pitch, chords and/or harmony at that point in time (with some of the stronger overtones included). Touch the on-screen keyboard in ReSynth mode to hear just the nearest note frequency in the current ReSynthesis. * Tap the Gear/Settings icon to bring up several controls. Settings include 3 coloring modes: Black and White, Standard amplitude/Volume coloring, and the HotPaw magic inTuna pitch coloring mode (also used in the Sing-inTuna iOS app) that allows you to see if you are singing or playing in tune (green for close to in tune, blue for sharp, red for flat). There are also 3 filtering modes: full spectrum, only peak frequencies, and mostly lower frequencies. You can also adjust volume sensitivity and spectrograph contrast. Up to 7 octaves of frequency range (from 2 octaves below middle-C up to 5 octaves above) are viewable, or optionally zoom into 4.5 octaves (by turning the iPad, or in the configuration display on the iPhone). * The new Mid frequency filter mode may help eliminate many of the higher overtones so you can see the note pitches better. * Show Settings and tap the More Options button to bring up options: - Pastel : Shows a lighter Pastel background versus the default background. - Refine : Shows fine tuning information when the spectrograph is Pause. - AGC : Helps set the Volume sensitivity. But manually adjusting the Volume using the slider control at the top is best. - On the iPhone there is also a control to select 7 octaves versus 4.5 octaves. * Tap the "Gear" icon Settings control while playing a tune to bring up a Rate control slider, and Slow Down music playback by up to 5X (This is not a high audio quality speed adjustment. It's only to aid transcription purposes, not for listening.) To help remove vocals from common recording mixes, select Left, Right or Center Subtract (L-R) mode in the Tunes play control panel. Music playback during spectrograph analysis is monophonic only. Not all iTunes file formats supported. DRM protected iTunes files are not supported. The Volume Coloring and Black and White display modes will show higher resolution spectrograms when Paused. Warning: For most musical sounds, you will see LOTS of overtones and harmonics, not just the fundamental note pitch frequencies. ---- http://www.hotpaw.com/rhn/hotpaw/ Support email: rhn-support@hotpaw.com ---- v 1.4.1 b01 test Version 1.4.0 - Added a new light-colored Pastel mode graph option - Improved "Slow-Down" music play rate control - Improved "Stopped-in-Time" Pitch Resynthesis - Improved Mid-pitch overtone filtering - New Icon! - Includes several User Interface enhancements and Bug Fixes (b06) Version 1.3.6 - Fixed a bug that caused distortion of sound input from the microphone. - Enabled importing a .wav audio file from a Mail attachment.
